When creating a custom-made Wyn bass, Wyn Guitars owner and designer, Randall Wyn Fullmore seeks to create a guitar based on exceptional tone, playability and natural design. To achieve that goal, he hand selects the best hardwoods from every part of the world. Randall’s commitment is to put his heart and soul into everything he does, and to reward every bass player that has confidence in his work, with the best bass he knows how to build.
The Wyn bass is a unique guitar that sounds great, feels great and looks great. And for bass players like Maurice Fitzgerald, it’s a remarkable feeling just being able to play one. But Maurice, one of the most highly respected Gospel session bass players, who most recently has worked with artists like Marvin Sapp, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Andrae Crouch and Donald Lawrence – also knows firsthand what it feels like to own a custom-made Wyn bass. He calls it, “The best instrument I’ve ever held in my hands.”
Maurice’s guitar is a 6-string Claro Walnut topped bass. The back received the same Claro Walnut treatment with a body core of African Mahogany. The neck construction is using a super thin taper core of Wenge with Padouk striping.
For Randall, the distinctive experience of being able to make custom guitars that are played on some of the world’s largest music stages is fulfilling. Through years of observation, he has found that the sensibility of most bass players is in tune with the beauty and sound of the same exotic hardwoods that interest him. Bass players tend to value individual one of a kind guitars. Also, “besides the deep expressive tones, bass guitars are just plain bigger and offer a larger canvas for design, shape and beauty.”
