VaShawn Mitchell will perform at Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) National Convention this week in Denver, CO. The award winning Gospel star was tapped as a celebrity spokesperson last year and launched “Mentoring Brothers In Action,” in the church community.
The “Mentoring Brothers In Action,” movement formed in collaboration with the nation’s three largest African American fraternities, Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi and Omega Psi Phi, to engage more Black men to get involved in one-to-one mentoring to change the odds for African American boys.
He also initiated the “Church Challenge.” He will encourage congregations to raise money to help the local mentoring agencies. Each church will have one month from the date of VaShawn’s performance to donate to BBBS. The congregation that raises the most funds will be featured in Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Brothers recruitment materials. In addition the winning church’s pastor will have a feature story on MentoringBrothers.org and in the monthly newsletter. Funds received will go to the local host Big Brothers Big Sisters agency.
In addition, Mitchell will unveil a new BBBS PSA at the National Convention. The video PSA advocates the need for African American men and women mentors.
This event along with Mitchell’s recent appearance at Medgar Evers’ 50th Anniversary memorial service, has been part of Mitchell’s recent social and philanthropic endeavors. He will continue to work with organizations to uplift his community and make the greatest impact.
Mitchell’s new single “Greatest Man,” was the most added song to gospel radio this week and is poised to be a chart topper. His current single “Turning Around for Me” is in the Top 15 and his project Created 4 This continues to be a top seller. Mitchell has several appearances schedule this summer including Full Gospel Conference, McDonald’s Tour and more.
