Lifestyle Feature: Be Free Today By Ami Rushes

I want to speak today to anyone who is struggling with an addiction or any bondage in your life. You may be caught in the net of alcohol, drugs, overeating, pornography, and the like, but I want you to be encouraged and know that there is help and there is hope for your deliverance in the Lord. Jesus came to set the captives free. It doesn’t matter how deeply entrenched you may be or how long you have been struggling with this, God has the answer and a way out for you. Sometimes, it’s a process, and sometimes, deliverance can come when you least expect it. I can tell you from experience, because I was in bondage with an eating disorder for twenty years.

Psalm 25:15 tells us, “Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord; for He shall pluck my feet out of the net.” This is exactly what the Lord did for me, and I will share my testimony with you hoping that it will give you a newfound hope and encouragement.

Notice the Scripture says, “He shall pluck my feet out of the net.” That’s just what addiction is: it’s like a net or a web that has you all tangled up and you can’t get out. But God shall pluck you right out of that net, and you will be free.

I had reached a point in my battle with addiction where I really didn’t think I could be free. I knew God was able to deliver, but I just wasn’t sure He would deliver me. After all, I had been dealing with this eating disorder for twenty years. One day, I had an appointment to meet a minister of music at a very well-known church in Los Angeles. At the end of the meeting, the minister asked me if I could sing at the Wednesday night service. I remember thinking, “Maybe God could really use me.”

I drove out of the parking lot of the church, and while doing so all I can tell you is I knew that I knew something had lifted. The struggle was gone. Twenty years of bondage was instantaneously healed, never to return again. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed. God had truly plucked my feet out of the net.

I have said all this to you, beloved, to let you know that God is no respecter of persons: and if He did it for me, He will do it for you. He has a tailor-made plan for your deliverance—and a perfect timing as well.

In closing, child of God, I want you to take heart, and hope and remember to keep your eyes ever toward the Lord, for He shall pluck your foot out of the net, and you will go free. You have God’s word on it

God loves you.

I love you.
